Linda Diane Lawrence, born October 21, 1949, in East Alton Illinois, passed peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loving daughters on Sunday February 15th, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Williams, and her father, Thomas Williams, of East Alton, Illinois.

Linda is survived by her husband, Richard Lawrence; her daughters, Jenifer Bernatz, Bethany HoSang, and Andrea McClellan; and her beloved grandchildren, Madison, Brian, Cassidy, Rickey, Caleigh, and Kennedy, who were among her greatest joys.

The first thing anyone noticed about Linda was her radiant smile and infectious joy, which she carried with her regardless of the situation. She had a gift for “stopping to smell the flowers” wherever she went, embracing life’s simple beauties with gratitude and wonder. She was feisty and strong, deeply empathetic, and she always put her daughters first—without hesitation and without condition.

Linda was a lifelong educator whose passion for teaching spanned from preschool classrooms to university lecture halls. She believed deeply in the power of learning and in nurturing the potential within every student she encountered. Her impact will live on in the countless lives she shaped throughout her career.

In retirement, Linda found joy in traveling between her two favorite places—St. Louis and St. Thomas, before finally settling in Virginia. She fulfilled lifelong dreams of travel, visiting Egypt, the Holy Land, China, Canada, Hawaii, and her dream destination, Paris. She also devoted her time and heart to fostering many kittens and cats, offering them the same compassion and care she showed so freely to others.

A faithful and active member of her church, Linda served in children’s ministry and treasured traditions such as the annual apple butter making. Her faith was evident in her service, her kindness, and her unwavering love for her family.

Linda’s legacy is one of joy, faith, adventure, compassion, and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
