Linda passed away at home surrounded by her family on December 13th, 2021 in Virginia Beach, VA. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 37 years (together 39), Brian; adult children Brian and wife Kelly, Jessica and husband Anatoly, Michael and wife Jaime; mother Dorothy; brothers Eric and wife Karen, and Kenneth; and many loving nieces and nephews. Linda was predeceased by her father, Hugo and step-father, James.
Linda was a woman of deep faith and walked the path in His Holy Name. She was active in Kings Grant Presbyterian Church’s community with bible studies, mission activities and teaching bible school. She loved to work with children, teens and young adults alike. She willingly gave of her time and energies to help all persons freely without reservations. She was filled with empathy, compassion, patience, caring and exhibited a keen sense of looking out for those who often struggled and their caretakers.
Linda graduated from SUNY Wesbury in NY with a degree in psychology. She worked at the first school in the nation dedicated to students with multiple disabilities, Human Resources School in Albertson, NY. This is when Linda met the love of her life in 1982. She took a special education position working with Brian at Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park, NY. When Linda and Brian met it was true love at first sight and they were married two years later.
Linda worked in education in NY for a year, and moved on to take a position at Hygeia Healthcare, a company that sold and demonstrated accessibility and mobility products for persons with disabilities. Her job involved sales, demonstrating accessibility features in a one of a kind accessible model home, and making presentations to organizations that represented a host of disabilities.
The Miller’s moved to Virginia Beach in the summer of 1990. Linda chose to remain home to be with her children until her youngest, Michael, was in middle school. She then returned to the classroom in the Virginia Beach City Public Schools system for 15 years as a special education teacher working with Intellectually Disabled students ages 12 to 22. During this time she worked at Windsor Woods Elementary, Plaza Middle School, and the last nine years she joined Brian working at Princess Anne High School. Linda was a dedicated special educator who was actively engaged in her students live’s and school activities. During her tenure, Linda developed lasting relationships with her co-workers, students and their parents. Linda sponsored the Nobleteens student organization, was often present, organizing and attending her students numerous school functions such as the special Olympics, dances, dinners, and talent shows. She was an “All In” dedicated special education teacher with all that she did.
Linda will be fondly remembered for her love and devotion to her faith, husband, children, mother, family, and friends. She was a dedicated teacher of special needs students, an avid reader, loved to garden, and host friends and family. Linda cherished and never took for granted the lifelong relationships she built. She was a grateful person who always noticed and brought out the best in those she came into contact with. Although she left us far too soon, her life will always be celebrated by those who loved and knew her. Linda loved the Lord with all her heart and was at peace when she was called to His arms.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making donations in Linda’s memory to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. https://give.bcrf.org/lem
