Linda “Lindy” May Powis passed away peacefully in her childhood family home with her sisters and nieces by her side on January 2, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the age of 63. She was born on May 31, 1962, in Lachine, Quebec, Canada to June and the late Robert Powis.

Lindy was a spirited and dedicated individual who lived life with passion and enthusiasm. Her life was rooted in faith, and her love for God guided the way she cared for others. She lived with a quiet strength, a generous heart, and a devotion that touched everyone who knew her.

Family was her greatest joy. She protected them fiercely, supported them endlessly, and celebrated them wholeheartedly. She was the kind of friend who showed up without being asked — selfless, steady, and always ready to give more of herself than anyone expected. Giving came naturally to her; she never hesitated to share what she had with anyone in need.

Her protective spirit extended far beyond her inner circle. Friends, neighbors, and even strangers felt safer simply because she was around. Her apartment complex knew her as its unofficial guardian—always watchful, always caring, always ready to help. Many joked that she was the best security they ever had, and they meant it.

She had a deep love for animals, treating every creature with the same compassion she offered the people in her life. Her gentle heart and fierce loyalty made her a source of comfort to all who crossed her path.

She retired from a successful career as a driver for UPS, where she was known for her attention to detail, helpful and friendly demeanor. Lindy also channeled her entrepreneurial spirit into owning and operating her own lawncare business, where she took great pride in beautifying her community.

An avid sports enthusiast, Lindy was a true fan of all sports, particularly football and baseball. She knew the standings of any team playing. Lindy was a true athlete and loved to play any sport that was competitive. Her favorites were softball, racquetball and golf. Her knowledge of softball, basketball, golf, racquetball and countless other sports was unparalleled. She never missed a World Series, Super Bowl, or any major sporting event, and she could often be found sharing her insights and predictions with friends and family.

Those left to cherish Lindy’s memories are her loving mother, June Powis; her siblings, Randy Powis, Sharon Geisinger (Jim), and April Flynn (Dennis); her nieces and nephews: Weston, Jonathan, Jeffrey, Shannon, and Kelsey; and her great-nieces and great-nephews: Aidan, Blakely, Liam, Ashton, and Logan. She also leaves behind her beloved furbabies: her cats, Alley May, Buddy, and Skeeter, and her dog, Norman.

Though she is no longer with us, her legacy of love, generosity, and faith will continue to shine through the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A celebration of Lindy’s life will take place at Essential Church, on January 15^th at 1:00 pm, located at 4020 Ware Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456.

Friends are chosen family.❤️🙏🏽 Lindy was a remarkable person. The sentiments expressed by her family, friends, and neighbors on her tribute wall reflect the profound impact she had on their lives. I went to high school with Lindy. She was always smiling. She listened without judgment, laughed without reservation, and supported without hesitation. She showed up when it mattered most, offering quiet strength or loud cheer, depending on what the moment called for. My lawnservice quit on me abruptly. I called Lindy and without hesitation she was there bright and early the next day. When I went to pay her she said "Nah, no charge. Everyone gets in a bind every now and then". I had to really insist for her to take the money. This tribute honours not just who she was, but what she meant to myself, and everyone who knew her. She was a people person who made lasting impressions on family, friends and neighbors hearts. Losing a friend like Lindy leaves an ache—but her love leaves a gift they will carry forever. All the best for the next forever home for Lindys constant companions, her beloved furbabies; her cats, Alley May, Buddy, and Skeeter, and her dog, Norman. 🐾

I first met Lindy @ Plaza Jr. We had a few classes together and also played community sports in the same league, but not always on the same teams. We lost contact after high school, but reconnected about 15 years ago. She hired me to help with her lawn care business for a few seasons…funny story (Now)…Lindy picked me up 1 morning to go to a new place. After I mowed, she brought me a sprayer and said “spray the front yard”. I looked at her and said “spray the whole yard with this” …Now those that may not hang with Lindy on a regular basis…when she answers a question repeating exactly what she said (force ably), you don’t question again lol. So she went around back to finish weed whacking and I started spraying the yard. I had finished the side, and was halfway done the front yard when I heard her scream my name and said “OMG, what are you doing?” Unbeknownst to me, she had put weed killer in the sprayer and wanted me to spray just the weeds. I felt horrible! The last time I had used the sprayer, it had fertilizer in it. It was definitely a miscommunication. Of course, she lost that customer 😕. She was so ticked at me, but just like Lindy, she got over it pretty quickly. 🙃. Prayers and hugs for the family, friends, and acquaintances of Lindy May. Knowing she was a Christian and had a deep love for God is where I’m finding comfort. I know I’ll see her again. 💔

So sorry to just be learing of Lindy's passing. She & Randy were part of our neighborhood friends growing up in one of the greatest seasons of our lives. Prayers & blessings to the family she left behind.... for now...

Lindy was more than a neighbor to me over the past five years, she was a good friend! Always willing to help if she could, even extending a hand to help me help others. She helped me through so much and was always there to take some random banana pudding shots, play cards, have dinner and a movie, wine nights, and have deep conversations about life! She did what she could with what she had and would still give you the shirt off her back if you needed it! She had such a compassionate, sassy and care free attitude. I love you friend and you will be missed dearly!❤️

I will always remember Lindy as she is in her photo, smiling and fun loving. I remember when she had that photo done and it shows her true beauty, such a beautiful smile . While I didn’t get to see her often as we live in Canada, the times I spent with her will always be cherished. Lindy was funny, loved her family and always reached out. I still really can’t believe she’s not here with us. You will be truly missed. Love you Lindy 💞💞💞

Rest in peace Lindy! Your hard fought battle with cancer is now over! You have always been a true friend with a loving heart and gentle soul. Even though there was physical distance between us, we remained friends through our many phone conversations and text messages. I love and miss you Lindy May!

Lindy was a dear dear friend with a beautiful kindred spirit! While I’m glasses is at peace and out of pain….I will truly miss her! I love you Lindy!

My mom, Jane (d 2016) first met Lindy as a neighbor, and later got to know her better as our lawn care professional. Although we all went our separate ways, years ago, from Christopher Farms, the magic of Facebook kept us in touch. We shared a love of cats, and often shared chuckles over silly reels of feline antics. Mom and I were also blessed to know Sharon through Essential Church. I’ve been praying continuously for Lindy, and while saddened by our earthly loss, I rejoice that she is dancing among God’s eternally blooming garden! Lindy’s perfect healing and wholeness now, in Heaven is an answer to prayer we all seek one day. I trust Lindy has already found Miss Jane and given her a warm hug & kiss from me. May Holy Spirit gently console those Lindy leaves missing here.
