Lourdes Teodoro Buni entered the kingdom of our Lord on October 16, 2025. Lourdes was born January 23, 1936 in San Pablo City, Philippines, to the late Flordelisa Maralit and Victorino Teodoro. Lody was the fifth child of six, three sisters and two brothers. Although she and her siblings lived a humble life, there was no doubt over their love and care for each other. Her mother was a meat vendor in the public market and raised them single-handedly due to the early passing of Lody’s father. She was fondly called “Lody” by family and friends. Lody was a muse to all the people she met. She was a lovely lady with a warm personality. Her deep trust in God was beyond measure. These traits won the heart of her late husband, Roberto “Bert” Buni. She and Bert married in 1963 and were inseparable. They enjoyed socializing with friends by going to dances, bowling, and supporting the many activities of the Filipino community in+ Virginia Beach. Lody and Bert were active members and leaders, helping establish the Philippine Cultural Center of Virginia. Lody and Bert were core members of several local Filipino organizations including CUFOT, Samahan Tagalog, the Filipina Women’s Club and Batangas Association. Lody proudly owned an impressive collection of Filipiniana dresses and bowling trophies. One of Lody’s proudest moments was when she was crowned Mrs. Luzon in 1985 (local Filipino pageants were mainstays in the community to help fundraising efforts to establish the PCC). Lody was known for her maja blanca and sinigang. She was proud of the garden she and her mother created; growing squash, eggplant, and bitter melon for cooking. Lody was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed helping others with alterations. Lody loved fashion and had apparel for all occasions and holidays. She was always up for a game of mahjong or bingo.
Lody is survived by her son Roy Buni, daughter-in-law Josie, granddaughter Vivian, and her niece whom she helped raise, Gloria Alvaran. Nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends from Virginia, Oregon, California, Maryland, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the Philippines offer prayers and mass from around the world as a loving tribute to Lody.
