It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lynda Carol Hammond (nee Argo) born on December 21, 1951, in Memphis, TN. She departed this world in the early hours of January 1, 2026, at her oldest daughter’s home in Virginia Beach, VA surrounded by her children and husband at the age of 74.

Lynda was a 1970 graduate of Norview High School in Norfolk, VA.

She was a loving dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and wife.

In 1990, by a chance meeting, Lynda and Carlo met. This encounter led to a two-year long-distance relationship before cell phones. Their monthly phone bill was the size of house payments.

In 1993, Lynda and her three youngest children moved to Bakersfield, CA. A month later, Carlo and Lynda were married and began their 32 years of loving partnership. Lynda settled right in with her new town and the many friends she accrued. Lynda retired after almost 20 years from the Kem County Superior Court.

Lynda enjoyed golfing with the Ladies of Sycamore Canyon Golf Course and shared memorable annual trips with the Gang from Sundale Golf Course to Primm Valley.

Lynda was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Mildred Argo, brothers, Sammy and Bobby Richardson, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ham and Fran Hammond, and her bonus son, Ryan Hammond.

She was a beloved mother to Pete (Xylina) Yates, Virginia (Jeremy) Kent, Bret Yates, Mike Yates, and Jessica Yates. Her nurturing spirit extended to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, who were each touched by her warmth and love Her siblings, Judy Emerson, Jane Barfield, and Eddie Argo, remain to cherish her memory.
