Mahlon "Chuck" Long, Jr.
January 28, 1963 - August 12, 2021
Mahlon “Chuck” Long (Age 58) of Gloucester, VA, formerly of Pennsauken, NJ lost his battle with colon cancer on 8/12/21.  Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Mahlon and Theresa Long.  Chuck is survived by his sisters, Lisa Martelli and Christine Phillips; his brothers-in-law, John Martelli and John Piowarcyck; his niece, Shelby Graves and her partner Matthew Duke.
Chuck’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Chuck’s closest friends, Earl and Calvin, who helped him successfully navigate his final months.  Earl was especially instrumental in ensuring Chuck was always comfortable, caring for him and staying by his side until his final moments.
Private interment at Calvary Cemetery, 2398 State Hwy 70, Cherry Hill, NJ.
Chuck had diverse interests and talents including astronomy, travel, history, firearms, music, photography and science.  As an electronics/mechanical technician, he helped build the ATLAS particle detector at CERN in Switzerland.  He also helped develop proton beam cancer therapy equipment and experimental physics equipment at both Hampton University and the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.  He will be mourned by all who knew him.

He was a sweet, gentle soul with a great dry sense of humor. We had many laughs together. I worked with Chuck at Schaevitz Engineering in Pennsauken, N.J. and again at Lucas Industries in Hampton, Va. He was a great photographer, I still treasure the picture he gave me of an asteroid shooting across the beautiful night sky. He loved his cars!! Also he was a really good drummer! Multitalented! We will never forget him. Our condolences to his family. Mary
