Marcia Jean Carrigan Hooker, born on July 10, 1943, in Stony Point, NC, passed away on October 13, 2025, at the age of 82, surrounded by her loving family, at her home in Chesapeake, VA, to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Tyree David Carrigan and Millie Estelle Ingram Carrigan, whom she adored.
Marcia’s love for her family, quick wit, and warm hospitality will be deeply missed by her husband of 63 years, Donald Thomas “Tommy” Hooker, two daughters, Donna Hooker Tysinger and her husband Robert from Suffolk, Virginia, and Diane Hooker from Chesapeake, Virginia, and a son, David Hooker, and his wife Erin from Norfolk, Virginia.
Some of her favorite people called her “Nammie, Nam, or Mammie”: grandchildren, Kendal Graves and her husband, Matthew, Jordan Long and his wife, Crysta, Kalyn Freeman and her husband, Taylor, and Jaden Tysinger and his fiancee, Shayna; great-grandchildren: Ryane, Gage, Jackson, Bowen, Riley, Charlotte, Anders, Cora, and Della.
Also left to cherish fond memories of her are her sister, Brenda McLauchlin, and her brother, Ronnie Carrigan.
Marcia retired after 30 years as a dental receptionist for Dr. F. T. Birsch, where she greeted everyone with a warm smile and a kind word. She was an integral and indispensable part of his practice. Her gentle demeanor and dedication to her work left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She loved and was loved by many patients.
She was a true believer in her faith, and she loved reminiscing and telling stories about her family. Marcia will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the fierce tenacity with which she loved her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
