Mary Llewellyn Bailey Smith (Lou), age 75, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2020, at home in Yorktown, VA.

Lou was born on February 14, 1945 in Nassawadox, VA, to parents Bruce and Mary Lee Bailey. She graduated salutatorian from Northampton High School in 1963 and later graduated from business school in Richmond, Virginia. While working in Washington D.C., she met her future husband, Harold Eugene Smith, Jr.  They were married on February 25, 1966 and settled on the Virginia Peninsula. She was a devoted mother to her two sons, Harold Bailey Smith and Lester Elliott Smith.

Raised as an only child, Lou became an avid sports fan, heavily influenced by her father. She gave back to her community through her work at church and her desire to help those in need.  Her love of giving back to her community and sports was passed on to her sons.

Lou is survived by her husband of 54 years, Harold; her sons Hal (Beverly) and Les (Michelle); and 5 grandchildren, who she loved so much, Eli, Sydney, Abbie, Cameron, and Kaitlyn.

The family will be honoring Lou at a private ceremony. In lieu of Flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula.  Lou will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
