Our dear father Max entered into heaven November 23, 2025, joining his father Herbert, mother Johanna, stepmother Ankie, brothers, Rudy, Ron, Roel and his dear wife Doris.
He is survived by his sister Ina, brother Andre, sisters in-law Joan and Anne, daughter Maxine (Mike), son Richard, grandchildren Annelise (Keith), Brittany (Daniel), Kyle, and great grandchildren Brody, Livia and Charley Max. He is also survived by many family members across Europe, South Africa, Argentina and Indonesia.
Max was born in the Netherlands, grew up in the Dutch colony of Indonesia, coming back to Holland after WWII had ended. In 1952 he and his siblings went to Argentina with their uncle and aunt for more opportunities than were available in war ravaged Europe. At a party for Dutch expatriates to meet young Argentines, Dad had the good fortune to meet the beautiful Doris Bittleston. They decided to get married in the US- as part of a two-year adventure- which turned into 69 fantastic years.
Dad had a strong work ethic, continuing his career into his 70’s to provide every opportunity for his family. He was a no-nonsense guy and a disciplinarian, but he was always there to cheer all of us on. Family and Faith were the cornerstones of his life. This was evidenced by his strong connections to all the family members who lived all over the world, and his 55 years as a member at St. Aidan’s Church. He was proud to see his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren attending and serving at the church.
A memorial service will be held on January 10, 2026 at 1pm at Saint Aidan’s Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach.
You could always count on Dad for a story about some exotic place where he had been and to be interested in hearing about your life. We will miss you Dad- until we meet again.
