Portsmouth, VA – Maxine W. Ainsley, born on July 19, 1928, in Gloucester, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on November 16, 2025, in Portsmouth, Virginia, at the age of 97.
Maxine was a beloved member of her community and dedicated her life to her family and faith. She worked as a hostess, “Hostess with the Mostess” at Churchland McDonald’s, where she brought joy and warmth to everyone she encountered. She enjoyed being with the Public. Years before McDonald’s she had also owned several beauty salons. She had a deep commitment to her Christian faith and enjoyed the time she spent reading the scripture and having Keith read to her.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Brown and Maude Williams Brown, son Kevin Becknell, sisters Pearl Jenkins, Louise West, Virginia Hogge, and Christine Shawn. She leaves behind her cherished sons, Keith Ainsley, her caretaker, of Portsmouth, Virginia, and Gary Becknell of Summerfield, Florida, who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
A celebration of Maxine’s life will be held at a later date, with service information to follow. The Cremation Society of Virginia, Chesapeake Office, is assisting the family during this time.
