Melvin Leon Hallman went to be with The Lord on Monday, September 1, 2025 at 3:07 A.M. in Norfolk, Virginia.
Leon was born August 10, 1953 to John Wesley Hallman and Nellie Arlivia Hallman and raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He was born a Crimson Tide fan, a love he passed on to his children. Joining the Navy at 17, he served his country faithfully for just over 22 years. While he couldn’t share much, he was more than proud of his service aboard submarines. Leon was a hardworking man, serving a second full time career. His impact through the United States Postal Service was often a story of long days and endurance for just over 19 years. Although, nothing brought him more joy than his family. Life was dotted with road trips and vacations, both near and far. As a father and grandfather, he was often viewed as stubborn and grumpy; titles he took in stride, laughing through it always. Leon was a beacon of fatherly love, often taking in strays of every kind, from his children’s friends to lost animals.
Leon’s love and compassion is remembered by his beloved wife of 37 years, Alice Suzanne, and his children: Jason Michael, and his wife, Joey Lyn; Alexandria Grace; John Wesley II; and all those that called him dad, too numerous to list. His memory lives on in his grandchildren: Morrison Michael and Grayson Lyn, as well as all those that knew him as Granddaddy. To them a goofy grump, who loved coins and games.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Azalea Baptist Church located at 3314 E. Little Creek Road in Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made by visiting https://everloved.com/life-of/melvin-hallman/.
May a quote from his favorite character, Mr. Spock, bring all who love him comfort: “I have been, and always shall be, your friend”
Live Long, and Prosper.
