Michael David Gilroy of Chesapeake, born April 15, 1967, in Minnesota, passed away surrounded by love on March 1, 2026. A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Michael carried the spirit of service throughout his entire life, always ready to lend a hand, offer a kind word, or strike up a conversation with anyone who crossed his path. His gift for connecting with others made him genuinely beloved by all who knew him.
Michael was the devoted father of two daughters, Brittney and Rachel, who were the center of his world. He taught them strength, kindness, humor, and the importance of caring for others, values he lived every single day. Michael also had a special connection with his mother Susan, and their relationship reflected the deep love and care they shared.
He shared a special bond with his loyal dog, Bear, who never left his side and brought him endless comfort and companionship. A lifelong and passionate Minnesota Vikings fan, Michael approached every season with unmatched enthusiasm and hope, even though his team rarely won.
Those who knew Michael remember him as generous, warm, and endlessly funny. Whether helping a neighbor, lifting someone’s spirits, or simply sharing a good story, he made the world brighter in countless small but meaningful ways.
Michael’s legacy lives on in the love he gave, the lives he improved, and the memories he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by his daughters, family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Michael is survived by his mother Susan, his daughter Brittney, her husband Caleb, and kids Brooke, Lorelai and Michael, his daughter Rachel, her husband Joshua and their son Charlie and Michael’s brothers Robert and Greg. Michael was preceded in death by John McBride.
