Michael L. Phillips, affectionately known as “Squirrel” was born September 22, 1946, in Atlanta, Georgia to Arthur and Lucille Phillips. On the last day of 2023, he passed away in Virginia Beach, VA at the age of 77. Michael was drafted into the United States Army, serving two tours in Vietnam. After Vietnam, he continued serving his country and retired after 22 years of service.
He met the love of his life, Brigitte, while stationed in Germany. They married in 1977. Brigitte and Michael enjoyed spending time laughing and doing everything together.
Squirrel enjoyed working with his hands as a cabinet maker and woodworker with his wife Brigitte. He also enjoyed being outdoors fishing and hunting. YouTube and Netflix provided new and ample entertainment after retirement.
Squirrel was a devoted and loving father. He displayed his love by encouraging his daughter, Lucille, to further her education and accomplish her goals.
Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Brigitte, and survived by his daughter Lucille; sisters, Ollie Fluker, and Irma Watts; and his many nieces and nephews.
Michael will always be remembered for his sense of humor and his loyalty to those he cared for and loved. We’ll always imagine hearing him say “Yeah, you right” one more time. We couldn’t have asked for a better father, brother, uncle, and friend, and will miss Michael every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
