Our condolences to Amy, Justice, and to the remainder of family. When I moved to Virginia in 2004, Marty was one of my first true friends. He invited me to the Third Day concert with his family and friends shortly after I started at NNS and we had a lot of fun. He was my mentor at the shipyard, helping to pave the way for my career there. Brandi and I enjoyed attending the 80s themed skating birthday party he had. It was a true reflection of how much fun people had when around Marty. Such a great person, greatly missed. Rob and Brandi Runyon

Hi Amy, You have been in my heart every day since I heard this news. You and Marty both were always so warm and welcoming to me throughout my time at Calvary. Please know I'm thinking of you and praying for you and especially Justice. I lost my dad unexpectedly about 7 years ago, and I can only imagine how much harder it would be to be in your early 20s! My dad's strong faith was a great comfort to me as I'm sure Marty's was and will be for Justice and also you. Love to you both

Amy and Justice, I am so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine our family without Marty. I'm so glad I got to watch you get married and meet even a few times during all our years overseas, and even more thankful that we'll meet again in heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ. Ethan and our family will always remember the special baby shower you guys threw for him when we came back from Brazil for a visit. We love you and would be there for the funeral if it wasn't so far for us with little kids plus snow. Hugs to both of you.

As a kid, Marty was my best friend. He was the first person I ever spent the night with, and I learned to skate and ride my bike with him. We had kool aid stands, and built forts together. And, although we hadn't seen each other in years, I'm confident we would have connected as if no time had passed at all. Godspeed my friend. You are loved and missed.

I have so many fond memories of my friend Marty McDonald. I will remember his laugh above all else I think. I remember all the fun we had playing ping-pong after Paradym services at his house. I remember the time Marty, Jess and me went whitewater rafting. Marty was just a fine person and a faithful example of a Christ follower. I will miss him greatly. Much love to Amy and Justice. I will see ya again someday Marty. When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!

I have never met anyone who didn't love Marty. He was a joy to be around. I remember sitting near him at Outpour and the faith he had as he went up to the altar and although he didn't feel well at all his hands were lifted to the One he trusted. Well done, Marty. You ran the race and won. No more pain. No more sorrow. You are a testimony to all of us and we will all miss you.
Mike Snyder left a message on January 9, 2019:
Marty was a great man and I consider my self fortunate to have known him, the highlight of the year for my discovery Rangers was the pool party at the McDonald house. We didn’t get to talk a lot since I moved back to KY but we had a couple of things in common and that was sometimes finding humor in things that other people weren’t laughing about, and enjoying the occasional Facebook debate (not with each other) and I thouroughly enjoyed when every few months Marty would message me and laugh about the latest topic that someone didn’t agree with or find as funny as we did. Marty was a man of principle that did not compromise when it came to his family, faith, or morally rooted beliefs and was not timid to share them when prompted. I love KY but definitely miss the time spent with friends like Marty. I’m so happy that Marty received his eternal healing but he will def be missed, Amy and Justice, Mine and Kelli’s prayers and those of our entire church family here in KY are with you.

Marty was a strong, funny and Godly man. He was an excellent leader for my sons in Rangers and just a great person all the way around. He will be dearly missed although we know we will all see him again. Much love to the family during this hard time.

I’ll never forget the absolute pleasure of knowing Marty... from our inside jokes and shenanigans and driving our young adults pastor crazy on set to the wee hours of the morning when he and Amy and other volunteers would be prepping for events. An incredible friend and leader is absent from this world and though it hurts my mind for myself, his family, and friends, my soul can’t help but rejoice knowing that the unfair pain that wrecked his frame for a decade has met its ultimate demise as he is whole and in the arms of his Savior, enjoying his promise. Rest easy, Marty. And... for one FINAL curtain call... “MARTIN...GREENBEANS!!!” :D <3 Juniper

Chad Cordon left a message on January 9, 2019:
To the family, friends and all that got chance to have the Marty experience, please accept my most heartfelt condolences. I’m pleased to know that he loved his family and I find comfort in the fact that he had a relationship with God. He always told me that me that, in a way, he was glad that we didn’t meet until later in life. This was because he knew that we’d have gotten into so much trouble. I may just have to admit that even meeting then, we still found a way to get into our fair share of trouble. That said, finding the ability to refer to Marty as a friend is easy for me and it is not because I think so, but because he told me. During our last conversation, we talked how he was proud to make the family picture we took at Kings Dominion (even though it may have slightly embraced Amy) and how he was now part of my family. Among so many other things, we also talked about his stories for our comedy routines, and some specific thing to pray for and that I continue to pray for his and his families’ strength. Not only did I get to tell him that I loved him, he told me how much our friendship meant to him, and most importantly that he believed that his faith and experience with cancer, would change lives. I’m going to miss my friend and know that his legacy will continue. The Cordon Family and the Victory Temple COGIC family are here as needed, and pray that you be comforted by a supernatural outpouring of the Holy Spirit and love from those that surround you.
