Our beautiful mother, Mildred Katherine Yocum gained her wings on August 24, 2021 after a long battle with Protein Calorie Malnutrition. She was born in Hampton, Virginia on November 16, 1960. She enjoyed taking care of others, she loved to feel needed.

Momma was petite but fierce. She fought with everything in her being for the last six years. She would light up a room with her spunky, loving spirit. She loved to get dolled up and would never leave the house without her lips on. Some knew her as Kathy, Buttons or Shortcake.

She was a beloved Mother, Nanny and Sister. She is survived by her three children, Robin Honeycutt, Frankie Yocum and Crystal Jones. Five Grandchildren, Mikaela Honeycutt, Cameron Honeycutt, Desiree Jones, Amelia Yocum and Frankie J. Yocum. One Great Grandson, Mateo Honeycutt, and Siblings Deborah Martin, Jerry Askew and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred Virginia and Edward Leon Askew and Siblings, Terressa Boggs, Timothy “Kurt” Askew, Edward Askew, Martin “Sparky” Askew and Jack Askew.

Her memory will live on, a legacy of love that will always be with us.

I love you momma more than I can ever put into words. You always said that I was your “rock” but the truth is you taught me how to be that “rock”. You taught me to be strong and persevere no matter what life threw at me. I will continue to be that “rock” for everyone that is dear to me. I love you momma. Thank you for everything you did to make me the mother that I am today. May you Rest In Peace my sweet Milly.

Today, I was driving home from work and I thought about calling you and then I realized that I couldn’t. I miss our conversations about my work day and your neighborhood gossip during my commute home. You loved talking on the phone and telling me repeat stories not realizing you already told me. I remember that I used to tease you and tell you to tell your stories to the telemarketers that would call. They get paid to talk on the phone. How I wish we could have more repeat phone calls. I love you momma.
