Windsor, VA – Norman Albert Hults, aged 83, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, at his home in Windsor, Virginia. Born on June 24, 1942, in New York, Norman lived a life marked by dedication and service to his country and community.
A proud veteran, Norman served with honor in the United States Navy and was a Vietnam War veteran. After retiring from the Navy, he continued to contribute to his community through various endeavors. He was the Vice President of the Horton Wreath Society and a contributor to it as well as Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. His commitment to honoring fellow veterans was unwavering.
He was a volunteer at Chippokes & worked at Nauticus as a guide as well as parking coordinator for the the cruise ships. His generosity extended to the local education system, where he was a proud supporter at Windsor Elementary School, demonstrating his belief in nurturing future generations.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Arthur and Dorothy Hults; his cherished wife, Thelma Ruth Hults; his brother, Arthur Hults; and sisters, Marilyn Griffith, Cynthia Zabel and Jacqueline Lombardo.
Norman is survived by his loving family: daughter Samantha VanHorn and her husband, William, of Windsor, VA; son James Phelps and his wife, Deanne, of Chesapeake, VA; brother Peter Hults and wife, Pam; sisters Linda Francis and husband, Raymond and Sandra Murphy. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and service.
A memorial service with full military honors will be held at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA, on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 11 a.m. The family is requested that there be no flowers and donations be made to the Horton Wreath Society, Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery or a school system of your choice. Arrangements are being handled by the Cremation Society of Virginia, Chesapeake Office. In honor of Norman, the family is requesting that attendees of the service wear something blue as it was his favorite color.
