On May 14, 2024, Norman Crabill’s mission here on earth ended.   From initial entry into earth’s atmosphere in 1926, in a row house in DC, he soared literally and figuratively: –            designing model airplanes, –            on wings of song in Jr High Choral events, –            with lifelong friendships sailing the Potomac, –            on first flights in small aircraft, –            on a…

Norm is, of course, in the Virginia Aeronautical Historical Society's (VAHS) Hall of Fame. A very busy man, it took years for VAHS Board members to persuade Norm to make time for the requisite taped interview that ultimately yielded Norm's HoF profile. I was lucky enough to be there for the taping, at Norm's request, to see the piano and the large print of the real FIRST photo of Earth from the lunar orbiter, and hear Norm relate his amazing lifetime of experiences/endeavors/achievements. To see and hear Norm's HoF profile, please visit www.vahsonline. He was a treasure, and he left this world many gifts.

Norm was a dear friend and a spirited aviation/aerospace pioneer and advocate. He will be featured in a chapter of My Life’s Journey. I look forward to meeting him again at the other end of Life’s Rainbow. … Ernie Dash Note: I would be glad to speak.

Norman had a busy time post WWII. He was drafted in the day President Truman declared the war was over, so he served in non-military ways. He took care of horses on the long trip over the Atlantic so Europeans could be replenished, as the Nazis had eaten all livestock. Horses were vital to farming and transportation. He also used his own airplane for other causes. There may never be another one like him.

I share your sadness at the loss of Norm. We formed our friendship as members of Tidewater Flying Club in the 1980s-90s. The obituary description clearly reflects the outstanding person that I knew. Count me in to say a few words at the July 20th celebration of his life. Dawn Kinard
