Patricia Bush Jones, 89, passed away in her Virginia Beach, Virginia home Monday, November 29, 2021. Pat was born in Mobile, Alabama on November 26, 1932. The last of four children, Pat, called “Princess Pat” by her family was born to Claude A. Bush and Leona Bass Bush. She graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile, and studied two years at Mississippi Women’s College before marrying Fremon Jones, Jr. in 1952 and becoming an U.S. Army officer’s wife. She bore two children, worked in various venues as a secretary and having traveled throughout the country and Europe, finally settled in Virginia Beach in 1972.
Pat followed many pursuits throughout her life. An avid reader, Pat filled the house with books and visited the library often. She enjoyed having pets in her home, and working in her garden. Pat loved making birthdays special for her children with beautifully handmade birthday cakes and cards, and every Christmas Pat played Santa for each family member filling their stockings to the brim.
Pat enjoyed her career in office administration which led her from work in colleges to companies like Zurich and Travelers Insurance and then to Bank of America, in Norfolk, Virginia, from which she retired in 2002 at the age of 70. While at Bank of America, Pat served as chaplain of her Toastmasters International Club, volunteered at Harborfest, and was active in the Christian Business Women’s Organization. A member of Community Methodist Church, Pat also participated in the Master Choir for First Baptist Church of Norfolk and most recently sang in the mission choir Virginia Voices International, and with it traveled to Europe, Nova Scotia and Russia.
Pat is predeceased by her parents Claude and Leona Bush, her former spouse Fremon Jones, her sister Margie White, her brothers Claude Bush, Junior and Philip Bush. Pat is survived by her eldest daughter Dana, her younger daughter Sabina Ayne, her two grandsons Matthew and Mason Porter, her niece Madeleine White Blanchard, her nephews Bill White, Richard White, and Steven Bush, her son-in-law Norman Jordan, as well as many other family members throughout the South.
A Celebration of Life of being held for Pat in her home on Sunday December 12, 2021 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at 5001 Locke Lane, Virginia Beach, VA, 23464.
