Paul Preston Jordan died on December 25, 2021. A native of Gates County, NC, born December 25th, 1932, he had called the peninsula home since the late 1930’s when the family moved to the area. A graduate of Newport News High School – class of 1951 – also attended Christopher Newport College in its infancy. A seven-year veteran of the US Navy, where he received his career training in electronics; completing both basic and advanced electronics engineering schools. He served three years as an instructor at Fleet Air Training Unit Norfolk and two years at Naval Air Station Guam, M.I as electronics shop supervisor and airborne radio/radar operator. Leaving the Navy as a 1st Class (E6) aviation electronics technician in 1959, he continued working in Naval aviation electronic systems as a contractor with Philco Corp. followed by federal service with both the Army and Navy (Naval Aviation Engineering Service Unit). While with NAESU, he often deployed aboard aircraft carriers and visited numerous naval facilities in foreign lands providing support and training to enhance U.S. Naval aircraft weapons system readiness. Following his retirement from DOD in 1988, he joined the Siemens medical systems organization and worked with many area hospitals installing and maintaining Siemens medical systems equipment, retiring in 1993. Many of his friends will remember him as the local “TV repair” person as he did spend many “off” hours fixing various electronic devices for neighbors, relatives, friends and teaching electronics theory in area trade schools. He enjoyed bowling with his wife, Gertrude in the early years and golf in the later years. In the mid 1990’s, he and Gertrude were able to tour the country for a few golden years. A classical country music fan, you could find him spending many hours enjoying the challenge of making music on his guitar.
Proceeding him in death is his wife of 67 years, Gertrude Mae (Liverman) Jordan; his parents, Lonnie and Elton Jordan; three sisters, Maude, Gladys, and Edna Mae; brothers, John and Early; and a half-brother, Wilbur Byron.
Paul leaves behind three children, Donna Jordan Alford, David Jordan, and Trudy Fay (Jordan Conner) White; two grandsons, William Alford and James Conner; and a brother, Raymond Jordan.
