Phyllis Steen quietly passed away on the morning of October 24, 2025 after being ill for the past several years.  Earlier that week, she told her caregiver she was tired and wanted to “go be with Harvey,” her husband of 69 years whom she lost unexpectedly in 2021.  She was also predeceased by her older…

Dear Tricia, Dee and Jon, I remember your mom with affection. She was an avid reader when we were kids, I remember her cooking in the kitchen, and giving Jonny time outs- I hope he can laugh about it now. She carpooled us, always kind and fair. You included me for holidays that were new to me. Phyllis had a great sense of humor and was VERY smart. May her memory be a blessing for you all. I started in late October trying to reach Tricia by sending notes to all the California ladies with your name and age. Probably not a coincidence on the timing- maybe my heart was feeling yours. If you want to connect please call me 978-500-0626 or you’ll find me online in Massachusetts. Love Heather

To The Steen Family I was saddened to learn that Phyllis has now passed away. I have always held Harvey and Phyllis in high regard since first meeting them in the mid 80s. My thoughts and prayers remain with the children and rest of the Steen family.❤️

Phyl's daughter certainly captured everything about Phyl...her life, her adoration of Harvey....she left out living in South Plainfield, N.J. which is when I met her about 67 years ago. She was pregnant with John and I was expecting my daughter. The children were born about 2 weeks apart. We spent great amount of time together in each others homes with Dee, Tricia John, Peter and Amy underfoot. Happy Days !It soon became evident that we had so much in common, but Phyl had so much more wisdom than I. After bthe Steens left New Jersey we stayed in close contact, traveling distances to attend children's weddings and when Phyl and Harv would go to see Harv;s parents in North Jersey, we would hasten there to see all of them. When ever things got tough in my life, with was often,I would always turn to see what Phyl would say I highly valued her opinion, her friendship, and love has meant so much to me all these years. Good bye, precious girl.

I first met Phyllis and Harvey in 2006. I feel we quickly made a great connection. Phyllis always had something interesting to say, with interests from politics, to nature, to interpersonal concerns. Meals in particular were times where ideas flowed back and forth. I enjoyed and recall many of these meals in most of the listed places, from Outback to Benny Lucchetti's. But I also recall the delight I felt at being part of my first Steen family Thanksgiving in 2006. But the shared experiences weren't all intellectual. She found a great TV show, from Italy, "Inspector Montalbano," which we shared on many Sunday evenings. .I will miss her enormously.

I met Phyllis when I first moved to VB (at a Samaritan House) event. We continued that friendship over the years. Such a good person with so many stories. It is very sad that she is gone; she is with Harvey now. Prayers for her family.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Phyllis was part of our foursome who played bridge every Thursday at the Atlanta Bread Company (until they went out of business). She was always a delight to be with, as well as a good bridge player. My condolences to her family-you are fortunate to have had her and her memories of a well lived life.
