Rachel Blevins Morrissett, 95, of Gloucester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025.

Rachel was born on June 7, 1930, in Konnarock, Virginia, the youngest of five daughters of Roscoe and Lessie Blevins. She grew up on her family’s tobacco farm and attended an all-girls school in her hometown. At the age of 18, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for J. Edgar Hoover at the Bureau and lived with friends.

It was at a church bowling league that Rachel met the love of her life, Carl Morrissett. Together, they shared many adventures, including running a hot dog stand at Buckroe Beach. They later settled in Newport News, where Rachel worked at the Bank of Warwick on Main Street and raised her family in Hilton Village, quickly becoming the “favorite mom” of the neighborhood.

Rachel’s career later took her into hotel management in Newport News and Williamsburg. After retiring from banking, she and Carl made their home in Gloucester, Virginia. There, she continued to work for nearly two decades at the Galeria Antique Mall, where her love of animal print and leather pants made her both stylish and unforgettable. She officially retired at the remarkable age of 85 and remained in Gloucester for the rest of her life.

A proud granddaughter of a full-blooded Cherokee, Rachel was deeply connected to her heritage. She loved the outdoors and spent countless hours gardening, mowing her own lawn, and working in her yard. Above all, she cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, taking great joy in helping raise the next generations.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl Morrissett, and her parents, Roscoe and Lessie Blevins.

Rachel is survived by her son Michael Morrissett; her daughter Melissa Morrissett; her grandchildren Michelle Suber (Gary), Jaqueline Jones, Joshua Morrissett, and Joey Morrissett; her great-grandchildren Larissa Patton (Jesse), Jordan Siverling (Kelseay), and Isaiah Siverling; her great-great-grandchild, Melody Patton; and the joyful anticipation of another great-great-grandchild soon to be born to her great-grandson, Jordan. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and laughter that will be carried on by all who knew her.

A private service celebrating Rachel’s life will be held on the Piankatank River.
