Randy Lee Spillers, 74, of Virginia Beach passed away on June 5, 2024.  Randy was born May 18, 1950 in Portsmouth Virginia.  He was the son of Virgil and Eloise Spillers.  He was a graduate of DeRuyter High School in New York.  In 1989 he received a degree in Accounting from Tidewater Community College.  He then graduated in 1991 from Virginia Wesleyan College with a degree in Business Administration.

Randy retired from the Navy as a Senior Chief Petty Officer (1969-1989).  He started his Naval career as an electronics technician.  Throughout his many tours, duties included Command Career Counselor (2 years), an “A” School Instructor (3 years) and worked as an HF and LF communication repair and maintenance technician.  He served stateside and three tours overseas in Keflavik, Iceland and Guam.  Having a competitive nature he excelled in football, softball, golf and bowled for all his command sports teams.  He excelled at racquetball and  ping pong.  His final duty station was at U.S. Naval Security Group Activity (NSGA) Northwest.

After Navy retirement and graduation he worked for Hermes Abrasives, Ltd. (1992-2016) of Virginia Beach.  Responsible for all facets of $16 million inventory including WIP, finished goods and raw materials, member of Executive Team developing  company policies and ensuring inventory meets corporate planning.  He retired as a Senior Manager in the Production Control Department.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Tiffany Candace Spillers.  His memory will always be cherished by his wife Jo, sons Christopher, Shawn, Joshua, Nathan, daughter-in-law Katy, grandchildren Drake, Anabel and Declan all of Virginia Beach; a brother John and sister-in-law Debbie Spillers of Cleveland, GA, sister Belinda and brother-in-law David Gray of Farmerville, LA, and sister Deborah Ann Cornwell of West Monroe, LA and a host of nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by the best friends a person could have.

Randy met the love of his life, Jo, while stationed in Keflavik, Iceland.  They were inseparable for 44 years, raised five children and were blessed with three grandchildren.  Life always centered around family.  At home Randy could often be found following his favorite golfers or solving geocaching puzzles.  Travel was then devoted to finding those solved geocaches!

Randy’s family and friends will gather to honor and remember Randy on Tuesday at 11:00 on June 25, 2024 at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veteran’s Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, Virginia 23434.
