Ray Alexander Ward passed away March 8, 2023 in Virginia Beach, VA. He was born March 21, 1947 in Norfolk, VA to his mother Dorothy Brown Ward and father Ernest Ward.
Ray grew up in the Woodstock/Kempsville area and was a 1965 graduate of PAHS. He enjoyed the good life in Nags Head being with his late cousin Steve. At the oceanfront he enjoyed surfing, biking, and hanging out at the Raven with his childhood friends Stan (deceased) and Barry who seemed inseparable back in the day.
Ray served in the U.S. Marine Reserves. He was a longshoreman where many of his family has been employed over the years. He looked forward to celebrating Christmas with the Crosswhite, Brown, and Hudgins families. Ray also loved going down to Nags Head with his cousins in the summer.
After retiring, Ray lived in the Chicks Beach area. He enjoyed being on the beach, sitting by the pool, listening to music, and fishing with his good friend Andy. Thank you, Andy, for your friendship and all your help and support you gave Ray.
Ray is survived by his brother James S. Crosswhite (Jimmy); his sister-in-law, Ann Owens Crosswhite; nieces, Amy Disalle, Lori Irvin and Kimberly Crosswhite; several great nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins.
Ray will be remembered for his colorful personality and a wardrobe to match. He was one of a kind. He will be truly missed.
The family would like to thank the nurses at Gentiva Hospice for the loving care and kindness over the last few months.
