Chesapeake, VA
It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dad, Richard Allen Hardin, who passed peacefully surrounded by his three children on February 20th, 2026.
Born on March 12, 1947, he was known for his kindness to everyone he met, his warmth, sense of humor, and a laugh that was contagious.  His faith in God shaped the way he loved and served his family and others.
Richard was born in Chicago, Illinois to Walter and Evelyn Hardin.  Growing up he was highly creative with an innate sense for even the smallest details.  He loved working on and admiring classic cars, especially his cherished 1941 Ford Coupe he bought when he was just a teenager. Shortly after graduating high school, he was drafted into the Army where he served in the 11th Armored Calvary regiment in Vietnam. After achieving Corporal, he received an honorable discharge.
Following Vietnam and completing trade school he became an extremely skilled carpenter. Over his career he worked in downtown Chicago high rises and then after moving to Colorado in 1985 with his family he worked for himself doing carpentry and home remodeling.
He was a devoted husband to his wife Paula who he loved dearly, and a proud father of three children: Jennifer Adams (Mike), Jessica Grigsby (Nevin), and Richard Hardin (Christy), two step-children: Jeremy Evans and Lucas Evans (Tess), and blessed with 14 grandchildren: Kristen Bratten (Seth), Kaitlyn Weaver (fiancé TJ Lemke), Grace Grigsby, Brooklyn Grigsby, Ashley Chappell (Savonte), Caroline Hardin, Annalise Hardin, Emma Hardin, Weston Hardin, Olivia Hardin, Steven Evans, Ciara Evans, Taylor Evans, Brady Evans and 3 great grandchildren: Bowen and Brody Bratten, and Chloe Chappell.
Richard’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and resilience.  He truly touched the lives of everyone he met, leaving behind a treasure trove of memories that will be cherished forever. He loved his pets, including the deer he fed who visited his yard frequently.
Richard is survived by his children and grandchildren as well as his brother Bill (Jill), who will carry his beautiful spirit forward. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Wally Hardin and his wife Paula Evans-Hardin.
Cremation Society of Virginia, Chesapeake Office, is assisting the family at their time of need. Friends and family may share online condolences and memories at www.vacremationsociety.com In lieu of flowers, please share a special memory with the family.
Dad, your memory will live on in our hearts forever.
A small, private family service will be held to honor his life.  We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this time.
