Richard “Rick” Leslie Taylor, Sr. went to be with the Lord on the 24th of January, 2024, at the age of 87. Originally from Illinois, he had the opportunity throughout his life to live many different places. After serving in the Navy, he retired from the Army National Guard. The Navy brought him to Virginia where he started his family. From 1963 to 1989 he worked with the Virginia Beach Police Department, and had the opportunity to serve in several different capacities. He was a Patrolman, Detective and worked in Crime Prevention. He was part of the first K9 unit on the department. He loved working, but he loved his God and family more. After retirement, Rick lived in Indiana for many years, before returning to Va. Beach. Rick was predeceased by his wife of over 30 years, Helen Theresa Waterhouse Taylor, as well as Margaret Jane Schonberger Taylor, and his son Robert Louis Taylor. He is survived by a daughter, Cathy Dawn Taylor, and sons Richard Leslie Taylor Jr and Guy Park Taylor and his wife Robin Nell Taylor, stepson William Daniel Waterhouse and his wife Dorothy Hulsizer Waterhouse, and stepdaughter Theresa Waterhouse Piazza and her husband Patrick Lee Piazza. Additionally, left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Taylor Hiatt McEachern and wife his Anastasia McEachern, Helen McEachern Pappas and her husband Nicholas George Papas, Coty Cosmicky Echeverria Espinosa, Bailey Waterhouse Thompson and her husband Matthew Thompson, Richard Taylor, Siera Taylor, Lily Taylor, Mariah Taylor Milton, Marissa Milton, Brody Taylor, Kyle Piazza and his wife Katy McDonald Piazza, Allie Piazza and Brandon Waterhouse, as well as many great-grandchildren. Anyone who knew Rick would always tell you what a good man he was. He lived life to the fullest and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His memory will go on and he will be missed by many, but we have peace knowing we will see him again.
