I was in Great Lakes RTC recruit company 915 where Rob was our "rpoc" recruit chief petty officer. I knew he was a genius immediately upon meeting him and he was a natural and completely effective leader. I respected him enough both as a leader, musician and friend, to look him up after all these years - never forgot him. Condolences to his family. Have no doubt, he was great.

I was stationed with Rob at Great Lakes in the mid 1980s. A great musician and true friend. Condolences to Jeanne and Julianna.

Rob and I were stationed together in the Navy at Great Lakes. He was such a great trumpet player and musician and great friend. I have so many memories of our time together there. Lot’s of great music and wonderful gigs. Off duty many of us hung out together normally at one of our homes. Rob and a few of us used to make trips into Chicago to shop at some of the Brass companies and would stop at tinder box to check out some pipe tobacco and get what we called a pipe clinic from the older guy who worked there. Was great fun. I have so many memories and stories of those years and with Rob. I want to send my condolences, thoughts and prayers to all of Rob’s family and friends. Heaven just got another great Trumpet player. Fair Winds and Following Seas shipmate. See you on the other side!!🎺❤️

Rob and I started on cornet together in 6th grade and played together all through school. We also played and wrote arrangements together in the Virginia Squires Esquire band starting our pro careers at 15 years old. We would discover and listen to record "sides" trying to musically figure out how they did what they did and we ventured out to catch live concerts of Les Brown, Count Basie, Woody Herman, Duke Ellington, Maynard Ferguson, and some great local jazz combos. We often grabbed our horns and went down to the beach at Ocean View to play into the incoming waves and feeling the music was embedded into our ways of playing. Rob's mom, Helen, often added me into her Pontiac firebird 400 convertible to give me a partial back seat lift home while Rob sat in the front passenger seat reaching his own foot across to step on her gas pedal revving the motor. I moved from Tidewater after our Granby high school years, but Rob and I stayed in touch throughout our lives. Our souls were never far apart and our reunions felt seamless like the jazz lines we loved. scott walter montvale, va

Jeanne and Juliana, The loss of such a gentle, talented and kind man will be great for you, but with the help of family, friends, and God you will be able to get through it. I know Mr. DeDominick from attending GSA Jazz concerts. I don't know if I ever spoke to him, but I could tell he was loved by all.

Dear Jeanne, We are so sorry to hear of your loss. You are often in our thoughts, every time we hear great violin or attend the symphony. Your ex-students Katy French and Amanda Roberts still get together and play. We will never forget your great kindness and influence. Asking God to send you and your daughter comfort and peace. OXOX

I saw Rob again after many, many years at our 50th Granby HS reunion in October, 2022. We chatted and laughed, and it was good to see him. I am so sorry for your loss.
