Robert Thibault Ives, Sr., age 86, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, in Virginia Beach, VA. Born on January 23, 1939, in Norfolk, VA, Robert lived a full life enriched by family, work, and his many passions.
A dedicated worker, Robert retired as a hopper operator for the local newspaper, where he was known for his diligence and commitment. Away from work, he was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins and found great joy in watching their games. His love for sports extended to the golf course, where he spent many afternoons perfecting his swing.
Robert had a deep appreciation for western movies and was a history buff, always eager to learn about the past. He also enjoyed watching “Jeopardy!” every night, relishing in the challenge of the questions. In the kitchen, he was known for his love of cooking and had a particular fondness for adding pepper to his dishes, creating meals that were both flavorful and memorable.
His community spirit was evident through his volunteer work at Harborfest, where he enjoyed serving beer and connecting with people from all walks of life.
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Mary Ward and John Ives; his cherished wife, Laverne Nellie Ives; and his daughter, Lynn Lannon.
His memory will be lovingly cherished by his children, Robert Ives, Jr (Angela). and Jacqueline F. Matrona; his grandchildren, Shanelle Lannon, Blazar Lannon (Brandi), Andrea Kominos (Danny), Holly Lannon, Matthew Matrona (Kasey), and Caitlin Ives; and great-grandchildren, Robert, Keegan, and Harper Peterson, and Kallista and Tulla Kominos.
A private service will be held at the family home. Robert will be remembered with love and affection by all who knew him. His legacy lives on through his family and the many lives he touched along the way.
