Roger Allen Oliver of Newport News, Virginia, passed away at home surrounded by family Thursday, October 3, 2019 at the age of 70 after courageously battling cancer.

Roger was born in Pittsburg, California and grew up in Newport News, Virginia where he graduated from Ferguson High School in 1966.  After attending Christopher Newport College, he joined the United States Navy in 1968.  He graduated with honors from Naval Hospital Corps School and served as a corpsman for four years.  After his Naval Service, he resided in Newport News, Virginia where he met his wife, Joyce.  They later moved to Gloucester, Virginia for 34 years before returning to Newport News.  Roger was a dedicated employee of Hampton Roads Contracting.

Roger is forever remembered by his wife Joyce Oliver; daughters Kendra Surber and Krystal Gill; sons-in-law Barry Surber and Justin Gill; and granddaughter Kayla Gill.

A celebration of Roger’s life will be held at his residence on November 2, 2019.  Come share memories with the family from 1-5 p.m.  There will be a ceremony with military funeral honors at 3 p.m. for those who wish to attend.  Details will be given privately by contacting (804) 824-4502 or rememberroger1949@gmail.com
