Roselyn Marie (Patierno) Demarest, age 88, passed away on September 16, 2021 in her home after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Francis (Red) Demarest, her parents James and Olinda Patierno, brother Robert Patierno, and grandson Joseph Demarest.
Rose was born in Schenectady, New York and moved to Virginia in 1974. She retired from Kmart Corporation in the Human Resources department in 1999. She enjoyed watching baseball on TV, particularly the Little League Baseball World Series each year, and watching the NCAA March Madness Basketball tournament. She also could be seen attending her children’s and grandchildren’s school and sporting events throughout the years. She was an avid reader who loved historical and mystery novels.
She was a current member of Saint Kateri Catholic Church in Yorktown VA and devoted her life to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as well as her family. She was always busy taking care of family needs and serving others. Early in the morning she could also be heard praying for all of her family by name.
She is survived by her brother Dominick Patierno (Arlene), daughter, Sherry Rotter (Alex), and sons Michael Demarest and James Demarest (Linda). Grandchildren (9): Jonathan Rotter (Nicki), Anna Fleishauer (Rob), Lara Rotter; Rachel Cabrejo (Isai), Ashley Demarest; Molly Demarest, Luke Demarest (Alys), Abby Finizio (Toby) and Grant Demarest (Katie). Great grandchildren (12): Emylee, Isaac, Kaylee, Giuliana, Raffaella, Jadyn, Jovee, Noel, Maddy, Caleb, Jonah, and Lily. Also, a niece Linda Phillips and a nephew Steve Patierno (Kim), and several cousins and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial is planned at St Anthony’s Catholic Church, 331 Seward Place, Schenectady NY 12305, 11:00 am, Monday, October 18, 2021 followed by burial at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 2501 Troy Schenectady Road, Schenectady, NY 12309. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. The Cremation Society of Virginia is handling the arrangements and online condolences may be expressed to vacremationsociety.com.
