Samuel Clavis Smith of Chesapeake, VA passed away at home on July 23, 2020.  He was born on June 5, 1931 in Plymouth, NC, but lived most of his life in Virginia.

Clavis, also known as Sam, was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a friend to many.  He was proud of his service in the US Army during the Korean War and had an accomplished career in real estate sales and investments.  He will be fondly remembered for how handy he was with tools, his expertise on the grill, and his love of outdoor activities such as fishing and golf.  He was also an avid fan of UNC football and basketball.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Ann Smith; his sisters Cecilia Smith of Richmond, VA and Faye Davis of Rocky Mount, NC; his son Clavis Alan Smith and wife Dodee of Glen Allen, VA; daughter Diana Blake and husband Ray of Glen Allen, VA; stepdaughter Bonnie Willard and husband Ken of Salisbury, VA; stepdaughter Dawn Stoneburner and husband Phil of Stephens City, VA; stepson Jim Booterbaugh and wife Ann of Chapel Hill, NC; stepdaughter Suzanne Dillow and husband Rick of Virginia Beach, VA; and grandchildren Austin Smith, Natalie Smith, Anna Smith, Chandler Smith, Jason Blake, Taryn Blake, Scott Willard, Lance Willard, Shannon Willard,  Traci Adams, Randy Wallace, Hayley Booterbaugh, Maggie Booterbaugh, Grant Booterbaugh, Katie Dillow, and Krissi Dillow.  He will also be missed by his 5 great grandchildren.
