Sharon Miles Cooke, 80, a loving mother, Mimi, Lala, and cherished friend, was welcomed into heaven on November 30, 2025, in Norfolk, Virginia. Sharon lived a life defined by creativity, courage, and an unwavering devotion to the people she loved.
A beautiful and creative soul, Sharon brought light and color into every space she touched. Her spirit was unmistakably brave, determined, willful, strong, and nurturing qualities that shaped her character and guided her through every chapter of her life. She was known for her deep compassion, her thoughtful nature, and her steadfast strength, which she shared generously with her family and friends. She loved her family with her whole heart. She embodied the true meaning of a Matriarch, ensuring that those she loved were cared for, supported, and surrounded by beauty. Sharon carried herself with a timeless sense of class and grace, always a proper lady in the way she spoke, dressed, and moved through the world.
Her beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Contessa “Tessa,” was her shadow and her solace. Sharon cherished the too-brief time they shared; Tessa was her best friend and a source of pure joy.
She found joy in the love she shared with Cecil H. Hilton, father of her children; with her second husband, M. Thomas Cooke; and with her loving companion, Michael Rouse, whose presence brought her peace and comfort in this past year.
Sharon’s hands were rarely still. She had a remarkable gift for creating beauty, whether through interior decorating, sewing clothing for her children, drawing, painting, singing, dancing, or any of the countless artistic pursuits she embraced. Her passion for craftsmanship and design led her to establish her own interior design business, “Just Decorate,” in 1999. Her work was featured in The Shopper in 2006, a testament to her talent and dedication. She continued to expand her skills throughout her life, studying decorative painting, floral arranging, and furniture refinishing. Sharon often said, “Our homes should be a sanctuary,” a belief she lived out in every project she touched.
She is survived by her daughter, Julia Hilton Griffen, and her son, Todd Miles Hilton (Shannon Hilton); her grandchildren, DeAnna Hilton Fisher (Matthew Fisher), Dean Miles Hilton, and Natalie Ruth Griffen; and her great-grandchildren, Kylie Ann Hilton and Trevor Platts. She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who loved her deeply and will carry her memory forward.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Josephine Donati Miles and Milton Lee Miles.
Details regarding a celebration of life will be shared at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation on behalf of Sharon to the American Heart Association.
Sharon will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, strength, creativity, and beauty will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
