You were some special lady Mrs. Gurnee. All the valentines days and Easters and summers I spent at your house I was always treated like one of your kids- you even threaten to shut my shower off If it went more than three minutes Wayback in the 70s. Waited in gas lines with you lots of great memories lots of fun. You are loved by many including me. I will definitely miss you

My condolences to the family on the loss of such an amazing lady. Ms. Gurnee was such a bright light and will forever be in my heart for the tremendous help she gave to me, whenever I called at a moments notice to sub at IMS. I used to joke with her that she must have come into the parking lot on 2 wheels, because she got there so fast.😊 My own children loved when Ms. Gurnee covered the class. Ms. Gurnee was a blessing to so many and will be remembered with love by those who were fortunate to know her. 💞
Linda and Earl Tonnesen left a message on September 17, 2021:
The Tonnesen family and the Gurnee family have known and became friends for many years when Sheila was in the teaching profession and all the kids went to the same schools having lived in the same neighborhood. We would see Sheila and George riding their bikes around the neighborhood and then Sheila walking often. We never saw Sheila without a smile or sunny disposition. Condolences to the Gurnee family from the Tonnesen family.

I am so sorry to learn of Mrs. Gurnee’s death. She was such a lovely neighbor. Whenever I would pass her on her frequent walks, she always had a big smile and a friendly wave. Her work at Independence Middle School was done with such grace. Middle schools children are not always the easiest to love, but Sheila truly cared for those kids. I always enjoyed hearing about her many trips to unique places around the world. She was a well-respected, irreplaceable member of the IMS family and a wonderful neighbor. She will be missed.
