With deep sadness, we share that Susan Corby Thompson passed away unexpectedly on October 4th, surrounded by her family. She was a vibrant soul who touched countless lives and left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Wherever Susan went, she made a friend—her warmth and big personality made it hard not to love her.
Susan was a native of Chesapeake, she is survived by her two sons, Dylan Thompson and Dalton Thompson, whom she adored beyond words. She also leaves behind her loving mother, Patricia Corby; her brother, Ronald Corby, his wife Mary, and their children Ashley and Austin; and her sister, Mary Elizabeth Holbrook, and husband Paul. A heartfelt acknowledgment goes to her former husband, Ken, who remained a meaningful presence and support in her life.
Susan retired from the DMV after 30 years of dedicated service, where she collected countless stories—many of which she loved to share with her signature humor. She continued her career with the City of Virginia Beach for several more years.
Known for her sharp memory and unmatched energy, Susan had a true passion for crafting. She found joy in creating and sharing her handmade gifts with others. Her generous spirit, quick wit, and boundless love for her family—especially her boys—were central to who she was.
If you ever had a conversation with Susan, you likely left laughing or at least entertained. Her presence was unforgettable, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her.
Please post condolences to the family during this difficult time on the Cremation Society of Virginia website.
