Susan "Suzi" Marie Thurmond

July 17, 1957 - June 12, 2024

Survivors left to cherish Suz’s memory are her father, James Thurmond and step-mother Sarah Thurmond; and two sisters, Carrice Thurmond Hice and Linda Thurmond DeCristofaro (Joe). Also survived by nephews, Zachary T DeCristofaro (Ashley), Eric K White (Danielle); and niece, Carly M Mann (Jason). Suzi also is survived by five great nieces and two great nephews that she loved dearly.

Suzi was an avid traveler who enjoyed hiking and backpacking. Suzi was a member of the Waters Edge Church where she volunteered each Sunday as an usher as well as other activities within her beloved church. Suzi also enjoyed volunteering with the Red Cross for many years.

The family would like to thank Bayada Home Health Care for taking such wonderful care of Suzi, especially Tierra, Tessa and Erica.

A celebration of life will follow in the fall, details are incomplete. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, www.lbda.org in Suzi Thurmond’s name. The Cremation Society of Virginia is handling the arrangements.

In memory of Susan "Suzi" Marie Thurmond, Joe Reap lit a candle

I am so sorry to hear of Susie's passing. I have fond memories of playing softball with her . We also worked together at Herman's World of Sporting Goods when they first opened. When the softball equipment came in , we would have to try on every glove. Susie always made it fun.

To her family, I pray for your comfort and peace during this time. I will miss her beautiful smile and her fellowship at church. She taught me how to love others though her actions. I grew up with Linda and enjoyed seeing her when she would visit Suzi. God is with us all.

Carrice and Family I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Suzi and I spent many hours Volunteering for the Red Cross. So was one of my faithful volunteers always willing to help no matter the hour of the day. I saw her about 10 years ago and we had hope o get together for lunch sadly that never happened. Man prayers.

I lost touch with Suzi years ago when she moved to northern Virginia. But I enjoyed our youth together backpacking, telling jokes, and sharing each other’s compositions and poems. I remember Suzi’s cool writing study on the third floor in a closet on Hopkins street. Take care, she was too young to lose.
