Lt. Colonel Thomas Richard Lashbrook, USMC (Ret.) died Friday, June 13, 2025 in Virginia Beach, VA, following a lengthy illness. He was 72.
Lashbrook was born January 20, 1953 to Leonard Richard and Dorothy May (Shouse) Lashbrook at St. Mary’s Hospital, Centralia, IL. A 1971 graduate of Centralia Township High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps immediately thereafter. In his 30-year career of service, he rose through the ranks to the highest rank attainable.
Lashbrook is survived by his mother, Dorothy Lashbrook, and his wife of 33 years, Lina Lashbrook.
He leaves behind the following children: David (Stacie) Lashbrook; Maricris (Rhum) Alop; Ian (Christina) Lashbrook; Mitos Bada and Pinky McMillian. He had twelve grandchildren. His siblings are Brenda Lashbrook, Donna (Brian) Gunderson and Dale (Gail) Lashbrook.
A long-time resident of Moyock, NC, Lashbrook enjoyed various hobbies and recreation with his family, including golf, boating, rock-and-roll music and billiards. Like his father before him, he was a movie buff and a particular fan of film and TV Westerns. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
During his military career, Lashbrook was posted at many well-known Marine Corps bases across the country and in Okinawa, Japan. A pinnacle of his career was service as Commandant of the Keesler Marine Detachment at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, MS. His specialization was electronics maintenance. Post-retirement, he worked for Rome Research, a military sub-contractor in his area of expertise.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday. June 20, 2025 at Family Choice Funerals and Cremations located at 5401 Indian River Road in Virginia Beach. Lashbrook will be cremated and his remains interred at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.
