Virginia “Ginger” Hanbury Williams passed away peacefully at home in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on October 7, 2025, surrounded by her family after a long illness.

Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, to Irene Crawford and C. Paul Hanbury, Ginger graduated from Churchland High School and the University of Georgia. She lived in Norfolk for forty years before moving to Virginia Beach, where she enjoyed nearly a decade close to the ocean she loved.

Ginger is survived by her husband of 55 years, C. Earle Williams, Jr.; daughter, Ashley Williams Hardee (Lee), of Charlotte, NC; son, Clifford E. Williams III (Jjana Valentiner), of Alexandria, VA; and grandson, William Hardee.

Ginger loved gardening, cooking, decorating, entertaining, and spending time at the beach with family and friends. She found joy in good company and good conversation. She will be deeply missed.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please plant something in your garden or donate to a charity of your choice in her memory.

I have known Ginger all my life. We went from babies through high school, then different colleges, then to living together for 3 years before she and Earle got married. Always one of my favorite friends. I am so sorry she went through this long illness. My condolences to Earle, Ashley, Clifford and her siblings . So many good memories and fun times. I’m sorry Covid, our move from Virginia Beach and my husbands illness kept me from being able to see her much in the past few years.

Earle, Ashley, and Clifford, I loved Ginger so much. I loved talking with her, and I loved her laugh. I took so much comfort in her unmistakable voice. I will always cherish hanging out on the beach and on the back porch of the Hanbury 80th street beach house with Ginger and all of you- playing cards, having a cool drink, talking, and laughing. Fell in love with Ginger the first time I met her. She was such a beautiful person, inside and out. We played cards together for several years. Always looked forward to seeing her and having so much fun. We shared all our family milestones. Nothing was more exciting than the birth of William. I spent so many fun days with Ginger while painting furniture in her beautiful beach house. I am so blessed to have had Ginger come into my life. My love to all your family.
