William (“Billy”) Charles Richardson Reid, beloved brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded with love on Friday, March 29, following a brief battle with acute myeloid leukemia.
Billy was born on April 21, 1944 to Helen Marie Pacini and William Reid Jr. in Norfolk, Virginia. He was a 1962 graduate of Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, an avid duck hunter and sport fisherman, a skilled carpenter, and a commercial fisherman who enjoyed all that Back Bay, the Chesapeake Bay, and the Atlantic Ocean had to offer. Billy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was a sports enthusiast. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play and excel in their athletic endeavors.
Billy is survived by his sister, Kathy Cudworth, his brother, Ronney Reid, his children, William Douglas (Sherry) and Dayne Michelle (Casey), their mother, Linda German Reid, his grandchildren, Morgan Jae, Kendall MacKenzie (Zach), Reid Connor, Easton Hope, and Kallan Faith, Camala (Shawn), Brittany (Ryan), Jenna (Brady), Christian (Katie), and Chase, a great-grandchild, due in October, and his great-granddaughters, Aubrey, Charlie, Ellie, Zoie, Phoenix, Blakely, Emma, Payton, Paisley, Lilly, and Madison as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his family, Billy leaves behind many cherished friends.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Traylor and William Reid Jr., his step-father, James Traylor, his sister-in-law Janet Kay Reid, and his brother-in-law, Randy Cudworth.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Wings Over Virginia Hospice, especially Martha and Grace, for their loving care and support as Billy transitioned to his eternal life.
A Celebration of Life to honor Billy is being planned for a date in June.
Though the tides of life have carried you to a horizon beyond our reach, your presence, love, spirit remains anchored in our hearts and memories forever. Nothing but blue skies and fair winds and a following sea on your eternal journey, Dad/Papa/Billy, until we meet again.
