William Covington Parker, 93, passed away in Williamsburg, VA, August 26, 2021. Born in Marshville, NC, November 5, 1927, to Lester L. Parker and Willie Covington Parker, he received his B.A. Degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, after serving in the U.S. Navy Air Corps in 1945 and 1946.
Bill is survived by his wife, Nancy Meyers Parker, two step-children: Christin Temple Klaff, (Andrew), and their three children: Ryan Kenneth, William Colin and Catherine Anne of Reston, VA. and Kenneth William F. Temple (Aimee Raupp and son Jaymes Harrison) of Weston, CT. Also surviving him are his two sons and two daughters from a previous marriage: David Covington Parker (Margaret); Dan Field Parker (Delores); Nancy Durkin Green; and Leslie Rose Maidlow; six grandchildren, Anne Rose Parker, Matthew C. Parker, Dan Parker, Jr., Clay Durkin, Clayton S. Maidlow, Parker Maidlow and four great grandchildren.
Bill enjoyed a long career in corporate public relations, first with Westinghouse Electric Corporation in New York. He served with Campbell Soup Company from 1961 until 1973 as Director of Corporate Public Relations and president and founder of the Campbell Museum. From 1977 until he retired in 1992, Bill was Corporate Director of Public Relations of CPC International Inc., later Unilever. He had been president both of The Public Relations Society: New York and of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. He was also a member for 16 years of The Public Relations Seminar.
Following a move from Ridgewood, NJ, to Williamsburg, Bill enjoyed membership in the Crown Colony Club and Kingsmill’s golf and tennis clubs. He also served as communications chair of the Christopher Wren Association, now the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute continuing education program at The College of William & Mary.
His family is grateful for the kind Hospice caregivers of Sentara Williamsburg.
Cremation Society of Virginia-Newport News assisted the family with arrangements.
