William Leonard Sabourin, Sr., 74, passed away peacefully with his family by his side January 1, 2019.
William (Bill) was born on April 28, 1944 in Alpena, Michigan. He was the oldest of five children to Charles and Miriam (Reinstein) Sabourin.
Bill was a loving husband to Saundra Sabourin for 51 years. They were married at Star of the Sea in Virginia Beach on April 8, 1967. He is survived by his wife, Saundra, his brother David (Pat) of Hudsonville, MI, his twin sisters, Mary (Don) Clute and Barb Stemkowski all of Alpena, Mi, his three children, April (Scott) Rusch, William (Lori) Sabourin, Jr., and Tracy (Thomas) Sherwin all of Hampton Roads, and his four wonderful grandchildren, Mason and Madison Rusch, Kyle Sabourin, and Alyssa Sherwin.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Bill and Sandy moved back to Michigan. Bill was a local business owner, and very active in local and state Lions Club and Church community activities. Bill moved his family to Virginia Beach, in the early 80’s where he continued to pursued his career in retail.
Bill was intricate in starting the Knights of Columbus Council 10804, at Church of the Holy Family and was the Charter Grand Knight. He has also served in several officer positions for the Knights of Columbus Council 10804 and for Fr Habet’s fourth Degree assembly.
Besides volunteering at his parish, Bill was a die hard University of Michigan fan, and above all an avid fisherman.
Bill’s love of fishing was only surpassed by his love for his family. Not a day went by that he wasn’t the loving husband, father and grandfather that his family will cherish forever.

The family will receive guests, Friday, January 11th from 6:30-8:00 pm, with a Knights of Columbus Chalice Ceremony at 7:00 pm at the Church of the Holy Family at 1279 N. Great Neck Road in Virginia Beach.
A memorial mass will be held Saturday, January 12th at 10:30 at the Church of the Holy Family. A gathering for celebration to be held following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Knights of Columbus Council 10804 at 1279 N. Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23454.
