Virginia Beach- William “Bill” Randolph Shanley, 90, passed away on July 13, 2018 at Sentara Hospice House. He retired from the Navy as a Senior Chief Yeoman after serving 20 years and then the U.S. Postal Service after 24 years of service.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Jay Shanley and Julia Mary Shanley of Pennsylvania; his beloved wife, Millie; his son, William “Bill” Shanley, Jr.; 2 brothers, Walter and James Shanley; and his grandson, Alan Smith.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Smith and her husband Elmer; granddaughter, Wendy and her husband James “Rusty” Webb; grandson, Michael Smith; great-grandchildren, Russell and Mackenzie Webb; sister, Mildred Graupe; brother, John Shanley; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Bill was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Virginia Beach Masonic Lodge 274. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Dr, Va Beach 23462 (if there is a location change, a revised obit will run Sun August 5), with Masonic Funeral Services, followed by a reception. Private committal service at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA will be at a later date.
