I had the privilege of working for Jack—“Mr.,” as everyone at Tidewater Emblems called him. He was a great example of a leader who knew how to get things done, and his family was right there beside him, making it happen. If I ever came in late and tried to offer an excuse, he’d just give me that look and a smirk—like he knew it was B.S., but it wasn’t worth calling me out. That quiet confidence was just part of who he was. He was generous with his employees and led with consistency and calm. I also got to work with Fran—“Mrs.” She had this uncanny ability to put her finger on any file or piece of artwork within minutes, all before anything was digital. It was like watching a magician at work. Mr. would occasionally slip away to do yard work or tinker with projects at home, and I remember thinking, benefits of owning your own business. There was even a rumor he had an indoor swimming pool. Mrs. would bring in vegetables from their garden to share—it felt like they gave of themselves in every little way. Fast forward 15 years, and my wife and I had the chance to buy their home in Alanton. Jack and Fran made the process easier for us. I think they liked the idea of a young family raising their kids in the same home where they raised theirs. Jack even invited us to bring our kids over to use the covered pool—probably knowing that would seal the deal. It did. The Huenerbergs have blessed our family in more ways than one—not just through their kindness, but also in the legacy they left behind. I still find tools in the garden shed that Jack left behind—tools I’ve needed more times than I can count. They will be deeply missed. It’s been an honor to know them.

So enjoyed my association with Jack. He always had a sense of humor which kept us both smiling. Will miss you, Jack. We are comforted that you can now join Fran on that sailboat in the sky. Tight lines.
