Jack was a native of Fairfield, Connecticut. He was the son of Edith L. And John C. Huenerberg of Southport, CT. He attended Yale University under the U.S. Navy’s V-12 program prior to entering the United States Naval Academy from which he graduated with the class of 1949. Jack and Frances (Fran) Moffat of Yonkers, N.Y. were married on June 11, 1949.
After attending the Navy’s Supply Corps School he had supply duty on the USS Edisto, an icebreaker, and on the USS H.D. Crow, a destroyer escort. He came ashore for duty at Naval Mine Warfare School, Yorktown, VA. He closed out his naval career as Officer in Charge, Ships Store Ashore, Naval Air Station, Atsugi, Japan, and Navy Exchange Officer, Naval Air Station, Oceana.
After leaving the Navy, Jack and Fran established a screen printing company, Tidewater Emblems, Ltd., in Virginia Beach, from which they retired in 1999. Jack was a lifelong sailor and a member and officer of Broad Bay Sailing Association. After residing in the Alanton neighborhood in Virginia Beach for 46 years, Fran and Jack moved to Westminster Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay in 2012.
Jack is pre-deceased by his wife Fran, to whom he was married for 75 years, and his daughter Nancy A. Huenerberg.
Surviving Jack is his brother David Huenerberg of Greens Farms, Connecticut; his son, Mark C. Huenerberg (Lori) of Norfolk, VA; granddaughters: Kelly Reynolds, (Farley) of Norfolk, VA; Katherine A. Huenerberg, MD, of Norfolk, VA; and Kristen M. Huenerberg of Virginia Beach, VA; great-grandsons Delton L. Reynolds and Graham C. Reynolds of Norfolk, VA.
A memorial service for both Jack and his wife Fran will be held at Westminster Canterbury, 3100 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23451 on Saturday, May 31st, 10 am. Reception to follow.
