Virginia Beach- Gary Matthew Palmer, 41, passed away peacefully on August 26th, 2015. He was born in Norfolk, VA and was the son of the late Donald Arnold. Gary was also the son of Carol Lamar Palmer and Stephen Palmer. He was raised in the Little Neck/Kings Grant area of Virginia Beach and graduated from First Colonial High School in 1992.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Heather; and their adored daughter, Regan. There was nothing Gary treasured more than Regan. He referred to her as “my girl” and she truly was his greatest joy in life. He also leaves his brothers,Mark Christopher Palmer and Leo Joseph Salch, and many extended family members and friends to mourn his loss and celebrate his life.

Gary was a big kid at heart and that childlike quality was what made him so endearing. He also found comfort, peace, and joy through music, using it to communicate his feelings to those he loved and knew.

Gary was an outstanding “Carpet Master” and “Flooring Artist,” and his creative talents were revered by countless satisfied clients over the years. His personality was expressed in his business motto: “Your smile is your logo, your personality is your business card, how you leave others feeling after having an experience with you becomes your trademark.”

A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date with the scattering of his ashes.

On Sunday morning the 30th of August, members of The First Presbyterian Church of South Norfolk lifted in prayer the family of Gary Palmer, the young man who just a few months ago; helped install the new floor in our fellowship hall. While he was there working with Bill, he walked into the Sanctuary and commented on how beautiful and peaceful it was in there. He talked about how he had thought about finding a church where him and Heather could go on a regular basis and take Regan. He spoke of how each of them were raised with different religious traditions and that maybe our church could be a mutual compromise. We expressed how nice if they would come and visit a service and see if it would be a good fit for both. All that matters is both are believers. We are all God's children and he loves us all no matter how when or where we give him praise. Gary's world revolved around his beautiful little Regan and he will forever watch over her from Heaven. We will keep Carol, Steve, Heather, Regan, Mark, Leo and all of Gary's family in our prayers. He will be missed greatly by many.
