On Sunday, January 19, 2020, Carol Spahn, loving mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 78. Carol was born on July 23, 1941 in Boundbrook, New Jersey to Steve and Louise Huszar. In 1959 Carol married Peter Spahn in New Jersey. Carol worked for Revlon for several years before becoming a homemaker. In 1984 after numerous trips to visit family Carol and Peter decided to move to Virginia. After moving they realized they wanted to do DIY renovations to old homes before it even became popular. Carol also started a crafting business from home, known as Carol’s Country Doorstops. In 2003 Carol was widowed by the death of her husband.
Carol had an amazingly big heart and always tried to help those in need. She looked at her son’s friends as her own children, lovingly opening her heart and her home to them if they needed a place, no matter how long the stay. Carol is survived by her three sons, Peter, James, and Brian, her grandchildren Ashley, Amber, Drew, Elizabeth, and Ava, her brother Steve Huszar, sister Elaine Fleming, her dog Lily, and various nieces and nephews.
Carol’s family would like to thank the staff at Retreat Doctor’s Hospital and VCU Hospital for the care and compassion they gave to Carol.
Carol’s family is looking for help with cremation expenses for their mother. Her family incurred a lot of expenses while traveling 3 ½ hours from home, staying in hotel rooms on various occasions, and paying for daily expenses during the unexpected care of their mother during the last two months of her life.
A memorial service has not yet been set.
