Ada Leino Roy passed peacefully in her sleep on Monday, May 31, 2021, at the age of ninety-five while being attended by her beloved daughter Marie and son-in-law Joseph. She was born August 20, 1925, in Village of Freeport, Nassau County, NY to the late William and Ada L. Pixley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the Love of Her Life, first husband Robert R. Leino of Finland, second husband Francois (Frank) A. Roy (Rochester, NH), sister Marjorie (Win) Gates, and best friend Barbara Smith.
She is survived by her six children and their families: Robert J. Leino Roy (Sue), his son Dr. Lance A. Roy (Faryn) and great-grand daughters Bella & Brynn Roy as well as Avery and Riley Rawls; Marie P. Leino Werle (Joseph) and her son Capt. (Ret) Michael Werle; William L. Leino Roy (Margaret); James R. Roy; Thomas J. Roy; and Donald A. Roy (Kathy) with his children Tiffany and Brian. Ada’s Nephew, John Rees (Jill), his daughter Victoria Fuenzalia (Cristian) and their three children. Niece in Law Sherrie Rees White.
Always on the go, Ada’s friends often referred to her as the Road Runner. She loved to get out with her best friend Barbara whenever possible and was always ready to make another trip to Florida to visit her sister. She spent many years caring for the children of anyone who asked, ready and willing to baby-sit on a moment’s notice. Ada’s home was in Virginia Beach for over fifty years; however, seven years ago, she moved into her daughter Marie and son-in-law Joseph’s home in Chesapeake, VA due to illness, where she remained until her passing. There she developed a special bond with all the family dogs, being especially fond of Yorkshire terriers Yobow and Kiwi who both predeceased her. Rocky and Crixus each remained by her side until the end.
The family would like to express their love and gratitude to her caregivers Shavonne, Latoya, Nurse Tania, and Dr. James Hatcher. Their love, loyalty, and devotion were of great help and comfort and will always be remembered.
Ada’s lifelong and final wish was to be buried with her husband, Robert R. Leino in New York. A private Memorial Service will be held prior to the family taking her to New York to fulfill and honor this wish.
