Albert Wayne Thompson, Sr.
Virginia Beach – Albert “Wayne” Thompson Sr., 89 years old, died Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Atlantic Shores. He was born October 20, 1925 in East Point, Georgia and raised in Union City Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents Grover and Mattie Elizabeth Thompson and his brother William Allen Thompson Sr. Wayne attended Campbell High School in Fairburn Georgia. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1942 during World War II and served on an artillery ship until 1945. Following his service in the Merchant Marines he attended Georgia State where he met Betty White Thompson who has been the love of his life for 67 years and survives him. He is also survived by his three children and their spouses; Albert Wayne Thompson Jr. and wife Joanne Thompson of Alpharetta GA, Nancy Thompson of Virginia Bch VA, and Paul Thompson and wife Davis Thompson of Brussels Belgium. He has 4 grand-children; Tyler Thompson, Camp Thompson, Ben Thompson, and Katherine Thompson. He is also survived by his nephew William Allen Thompson Jr. and wife Lynn Thompson. He went to work for the General Foods Corporation in 1948 as part of the Sales division. He spent 37 years with General Foods retiring in 1985 as a Region Manager in the Military Sales division. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach at 10 am on August 14, 2015. Memorial gifts may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or Virginia Beach Rescue Squad.
