Alma Rose Brackins left us to go be with her husband on Sunday, February 23, 2020 in Virginia Beach.
Her daughters were at her bedside when she passed. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on February 2, 1923 to Magnus and Isabelle Johanson.
She was married for 50 years to the love of her life, Bennie Brackins who passed in 2008. Together they had five children: Sharon Sattler who passed in 2018; Maria Abell (Charles Sr.); David Brackins (Elizabeth); Teresa Allen (Bobby Jr.); Brian Brackins (Jean). Alma will also be remembered by eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren.
Alma and Bennie settled in Virginia Beach after his final tour of duty with the U.S. Navy. She was a homemaker while their children were young and later worked for Giant Open-Air Market. Further in her career, Alma became a real estate agent until she retired. She loved being outside, working in her flower beds, and sun bathing by the pool. She has been described as a firecracker and her nickname was “Mighty Mouse”.
Due to health reasons Alma spent the last 11 years under the loving and attentive care of Beth Sholom Village in Virginia Beach. With the love and care that they had, Beth Sholom quickly became a second family.
There will be a Catholic Service at Church of the Ascension in Virginia Beach on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society in Alma’s honor.
