I served with Alva twice, and we became good friends. She was an amazing person. She had a smile that I'll never forget, a smile that was both endearing and disarming. I will never forget her.

My Wife and I were here neighbors. Being retired from the Navy, I always addressed her as “Warrant”, and she always called me “Senior”. She would always stop and chat when she would walk her dogs, mostly Navy talk. She and my Wife would talk about gardening and flowers. She will be missed greatly.

To the family I would like to give my condolences and pray that Jesus would comfort you in your time of grief. I was a neighbor of Ms. Al, here in the Tanglewood community in Elizabeth City and I was just told by a neighbor of her passing. It really breaks my heart to know that she's gone. She would always stop by to say hello when she was out walking the dogs. I'd missed seeing her and wondered when would be the next time, I'd see her. I'm truly going to miss her. She was always so kind. We never had our opportunity to sit and chat over tea. Blessings to family and friends! May the God of all comforts, comfort your hearts! Nathaniel and Cynetra Dunlap

I am so sorry for your loss. Alva was a force of nature, a ray of sunshine, and an inspiration. I am so lucky that she was a part of my life. We worked together at the quilt shop in Monticello and I could always count on her good humor and support. We had a standing joke that I only need call her and ask her to bring a shovel and she would be there, no questions asked. Fortunately I never needed to take her up on that offer! We were also both working on the same quilt pattern dubbed The Quilt From Hell. Last I heard she hadn't finished hers (neither have I!) If I may in any way be of help to you please do not hesitate to contact me.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.
