Angela Wanda Ratchford Mackey, 67, died in Newport News, Virginia, on Friday, October 21, 2016. She had been in a period of declining health over the past year.
Angela was born on August 6th, 1949 in Fayetteville, NC. to James E. and Ardelle D. Ratchford. She graduated from Boylan Haven Mather Academy and Pembroke State University. Angela served in the United States civil service for the majority of her adult life and retired at the rank of GS-11. She lived in Fayetteville, NC and later moved to Oak Grove, Kentucky for career advancement. Angela retired to the Hampton Roads area of Virginia because her love for the ocean. She lived in Newport News during the past year.
Angela had a love for scientific inquiry and served as a research coordinator when she retired from civil service. She was co-author of a research article entitled “Concussive brain injury in the military: September 2001 to the present”. She will especially be remembered for her avid interest in research (other interests?)
Survivors include two daughters, Kilani Mackey of Hinesville, GA and Ashleigh Boatner (Ashton) of Durham, NC; two sisters Betty Seigle (Robert, deceased) of Gastonia, NC and Yvonne Ford (Bernard) of Durham, NC. She also leaves three grandchildren, Mackenzie Mackey, Makayla Mackey, Denver Boatner and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to cherish her memory. Angela was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Cynthia Ann Ratchford.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 am Saturday, November 5th at Chosen Generation Assembly , 904 Marsh Street, Fayetteville, NC.
