Anne Measamer Thompson passed away on June 9, 2022 at Northern Cardinal Nursing Home in Suffolk, Virginia. Anne was born April 17, 1932 to Elwin and Una Mae Measamer in Wilmington, NC. Daughter of a Methodist preacher, she dearly loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was finally called home to be with him.
Anne graduated high School at the young age of 16 and immediately started her college journey at Brevard College, then to Pfeiffer University and finally ending at East Carolina University where she graduated with a teaching degree. She spent most of her career teaching and caring for her students. One of her most proud professional accomplishments was starting the home economics department at a new school (Jolliff Middle School) with a dear friend. Finally she was named 2007 Teacher of the Year at Jolliff Middle in Chesapeake, Virginia.
In 1968 she met the love of her life Ken Thompson and in June of 1969 they were married. They did their best to raise a blended family with love, respect and faith for over 40 years. During that time the family took a trip of a lifetime traveling across the country in a station wagon and camping along the way. Without a lot of money but plenty of love; they showed that family was most important. The family shared many camping trips to Peaks of Otter which was also the site of their honeymoon.
Anne never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need. She was such a caring mother, grandmother (Ma) and friend touching many, many people during her lifetime.
In addition to being predeceased by her parents, Anne was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Thompson, her sister Nancy Measamer and daughter Sandra Hurd. Left to cherish her memory are her sons Rob Anderson (Crystal), John Anderson (Kim), Joel Thompson, Kenneth Thompson Jr. and Randy Thompson. Grandchildren Shawn Hurd, Randy Anderson, Nikki Anderson, Dena Navarro, Brant Anderson, Lance LaTulipe and Courtney Anderson. Along with many great grandchildren.
She lived a beautiful life and we will treasure those memories always. An interment service will be held at 9:15am, June 24, 2022 at St. Stephen, Martyr Church Cemetery 1544 S. Battlefield Blvd. Chesapeake, Virginia.
